Berlusconi returns to the Senate of Italy, just to witness the defeat of his speaker candidate

Facing court trial both on tax fraud and sex charges for paying and under-age prostitute (Karima El Mahroug aka Ruby the Heart Stealer), Silvio Berlusconi chose – at least this is prosecutor of the sex scandal proceedings, Ilda Boccassini's theory – to seek refuge in hospital, with the excuse (according to prosecution) of curing a form conjunctivitis called uveitis.

In the meanwhile Silvio's lawyers, who managed to see the former Italian prime minister's «legitimate impediment» recognised, are trying A) to move the proceedings to Brescia and B) to seek for a «legitimate impediment» for themselves (for political reasons, since they have to attend to meetings and gatherings, being members of the PdL – People of Liberty party).

Manoeuvres to gain time (according to the leftist prosecutors). But this isn't the point.

The point is that - finally - Silvio Berlusconi last Saturday had to leave the hospital, in order to participate to a vote in the Senate, where the speaker was about to be elected.

He was showing off an unusual pair of sunglasses, proof of the eye condition the prosecutors refused to believe.

A crowd of protesters (not a silent one, as the pro-Berlusconi demonstration was, neither a colourful one like the FEMEN group's topless women attack) was waiting for the Italian tycoon, and as he arrived they started to chant «Buffone! Buffone!» (Italian for “clown”).

«Shame on you, poor, stupid fools,» was the loud and angry reply of the media billionaire-turned-politician as he made his way into the building of Palazzo Madama, seat of the Senate of Italy.

«Renato Schifani will beat [leftist PD's candidate] Piero Grasso» declared defiantly Silvio Berlusconi. But things did not go that way, since the anti-Mafia prosecutor Piero Grasso became the speaker of the Senate of Italy, thank to the votes of a dozen representative of M5S – Beppe Grillo's Five Star Movement -, who did not obey to their leader (by the way Beppe Grillo, a comedian-turned-politician, said the whole thing was a build up just to draw in a trap the gullible Five Star Movement rookies of the Italian Parliament).

Apparently neither in the Chamber of Deputies (the lower house if Italian Parliament) things went better for the allies of former premier Berlusconi, since a candidate from the Left Ecology Freedom leftist party – former spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) journalist politician Laura Boldrini – was elected as speaker. Or was that a trap too?
