Sunday, 24 November 2013. Talking to the younger generation of Forza Italia militants, Berlusconi says he is a victim of a coup d'etat (and Giorgio Napolitano should help him getting out of the pickle).
Talking to a Forza Italia's gathering of young followers, Silvio Berlusconi reiterated his j'accuse, saying that he is a victim of a leftist coup d'etat aiming to his “political murder”. |

And Italy's Head of State Giorgio Napolitano – went on Berlusconi - should “grant him a presidential pardon without any hesitation” even though his dignity does not allow him to ask for it (and Mr Napolitano previously tried to convince him that you can “grant” something only if somebody “have asked for it”).
In the meantime Berlusconi's former heir apparent Angelino Alfano said he won't join Forza Italia, founded a breakaway party (the New Centre-Right, NCR), declared he won't take part in the protest to be staged on November 27 (on that day the Senate will vote on Berlusconi's expulsion from the Italian parliament), even though he still loves Berlusconi and they should remain friends and allies and all that stuff.
Tough times for the newlywed Berlusconi (apparently he married his girlfriend Francesca Pascale), who has been depicted as a tax fraudster, a child prostitution's instigator, and an abuser of his office by a number of judges in Italy.
By the way the presidential pardon issue has been around for a while, on 5 November Berlusconi's friend Marcello Dell'Utri said that the five children of the former prime minister (Marina, Pier Silvio, Barbara, Eleonora and Luigi Berlusconi) all together have forwarded the application, but then the President's Office said that they went through the mail (thoroughly!) and couldn't find it: are they sure they posted it? Did they apply the duly stamp? Later on Berlusconi's lawyer confirmed that actually nobody ever sent any request.
At this stage it is pretty difficult to imagine a way out for Mr Berlusconi, having in mind that both the Democratic Party and Beppe Grillo's M5S vowed to vote for the booting of the media tycoon turned into politician.
Berlusconi's strategy so far seems to appeal to the emotional side of the Italians by the use of dramatic narrative to describe his situation: he declared that his children “feel like Jews during the Nazism”, his newspaper wrote that “Berlusconi is just like JFK”, they keep on talking about coup d'etats and murders.
