Berlusconi and the constitutional court

Wed, 19 June, 2013. Silvio Berlusconi risks of being booted out of politics for good, as he loses appeal to the constitutional court in relation with Mediaset tax fraud trial.

The so-called Mediaset trial has been lingering on for more than 10 years (Wikipedia provides quite an extensive picture over Berlusconi's trials and allegations, click here to check this out).

Will Silvio end up in handcuffs?
the list of people involved is pretty long - a fair share of the Berlusconi family is in it, like Silvio's children Marina Berlusconi and Piersilvio Berlusconi – but it's the head of the family who has more to lose, since he could end up banned from holding public office, if things turn nasty.
And now Silvio Berlusconi has lost his case with the Constitutional Court, leaving him with just a final appeal to avoid a conviction (later this year, at Italy’s highest court of appeals). It's exactly what his enemy and political opponent Beppe Grillo wants. Well actually the comedian tuned into politician reckons Berlusconi should be banned right now from holding public office, and accuses the left-wing PD to be an accomplice of the right when it comes to defend Berlusconi, who should be booted out of politics.

Sorry for that, Silvio!
But it's never too late to get rid of arguably the most loathed political figure in Italy, many think. And keep their fingers crossed.

Silvio Berlusconi denies the charges, as usual, and accuses the judiciary of pursuing a political witch-hunt. He issued a statement saying that the court’s ruling would “have no influence on my personal commitment, loyal and convinced, in support of the [coalition] government, nor that of [his party] the People of Liberty”.

They are trying to eliminate me from political life” said Berlusconi “but I’ll be forging ahead,”. The former prime minister of Italy has long held a grudge against “communist” judges in Italy, he claims they are out to persecute him and anybody who is friend to him. Like many of his beloved women and girls – like Nicole Minetti and Karima “Ruby The Heartbreaker” El Mahroug – stuck in sex-scandal proceedings.

But, you know, Silvio is a fighter and he will keep taking on its enemies, backed by his newly formed Silvio's Army, or the Army of Freedom, or Freedom Army or the People of Freedom's Army or whatever they call it  (by the way, tomorrow is expected the verdict on the Rubygate trial, soldiers must already be in the look out!).
